A simple
way I have found through necessity, to keep Guinea fowl. The best bird
to keep (if you can!!!) if you like the idea of keeping bugs, slugs and
snails at bay (including green fly) in your Garden or on your crops. Keeping
your garden plants whole and in the ground. (They do not scratch the ground
up like Chickens do when looking for ground food).
Guineas in
this country are mainly kept for ornamentation in large gardens, however
gardeners for along time have also use them as a green alternative to
keeping bugs, slugs, snails and other munching pests under control
(they are carnivorous very keen bug eaters). They also do
not scratch the ground destructively like hens do.
Game
keepers also keep them to encourage game birds to roost in trees. Off the
ground where predators can get at them.
For me
they tick all the boxes. They also tick the box for one very confused
partridge called Percy.

Having a really
good natural alarm against all kinds of predators and unwanted guests (even
the in-laws!!. Getting
Guinea fowl; for me, started as a means of alerting me if anyone was around
who should not be. Especially/particularly 'Charlie' the fox. They also
warn you of visitors of any kind, whom the birds are not used too having
around or seeing. To keep Guineas
like I do, you do need space where they can run free and have
trees in which to roost. You also cannot have objectionable
neighbours who moan about noise in the country side. Yeap!
you know the ones I mean. They moan noisily like
cows do, are surprised when cockerels cocker-doodle-doo
and wake you up when the sun comes up and think a car shouldn't have
a bit of mud on it. Lots of it no! agreed, but a
bit I can put up with.
